Wiggins was born on February 23, 1995, in Toronto, Ontario. He was raised in the vicinity of Vaughan portion of Thornhill, Ontario. Andrew is the son of retired NBA player Mitchell Wiggins, an American, and her mother, who was former Olympic track and field sprinter, Marita Payne-Wiggins, a Canadian who is basically from Barbados. His parents met as undergraduates -athletes at Florida State University. Andrew did his elementary schooling at Glen Shields Public School and high school education at Vaughan Secondary School, both were situated in Vaughan. Andrew Wiggins has two older brothers. His middle older brother, Nick also played college basketball at Vincennes University, Wabash Valley College, and Wichita State University. And his oldest brother, Mitchell Jr, performed for Hillsborough Community College and Southeastern University. Wiggins also has three sisters, named Stephanie, Angelica, and Taya.

Andrew Wiggins started playing organized basketball when he was just nine years old. He joined an under-10 team in Toronto. At that time, he was 5 ft 7 in, roughly 170 cm. He dunked a basketball for the first time when he was 13, and interestingly a year later, he grew to 6 ft 6 in,  that is 198 cm. Andrew Wiggins attended Vaughan Secondary School for his first two years of high school. He was a member of their basketball team and led them to a provincial championship in Ontario. He changed schools in 2011 and enrolled at Huntington Prep School in West Virginia. In 2013, he was named to the Parade All-American First Team and the McDonald’s All-American Games. Mr. Basketball USA, Gatorade National Player of the Year, and Naismith Prep Player of the Year were among the awards he collected that year. Wiggins enrolled to the University of Kansas in June 2013 after examining the basketball programmes at Florida State University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of North Carolina. He averaged 17.1 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, and 34.1 percent three-point shooting as a freshman, earning him a spot among the top 25 finalists for the John R. Wooden Men’s Player of the Year award and 10 semi-finalists for the Naismith College Player of the Year award.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER: Andrew Wiggins became available for the NBA draught in 2014, and the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him as their first pick. After Anthony Bennett, who was also picked by the Cavaliers, he is only the second number one draught pick of Canadian heritage. He did not, however, appear in a single game for Cleveland. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves two months after the draught, in August 2014. Bennett was moved to the Timberwolves alongside Wiggins, who had joined the Cavaliers the previous season. Wiggins made his NBA debut against the Memphis Grizzlies on October 29, 2014. Despite the fact that the Timberwolves lost the game, their new shooting guard scored six points. He continued to play effectively for the rest of the season. He scored 33 points in a losing effort against the Cavaliers in January 2015. Despite the Timberwolves’ failure to reach the playoffs, Wiggins was named NBA Rookie of the Year. Wiggins started all 81 games he played in his second NBA season (2015-16) and averaged 20.7 points per game. On November 7, 2015, he scored 31 points in a 102–93 overtime victory against the Chicago Bulls. His third season with the Timberwolves (2016-17) was his most successful in the NBA to date. He appeared in 82 games, starting all of them, and averaging 23.6 points per game. He was instrumental in Minnesota’s victories over the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and Dallas Mavericks. After scoring 27 points against the Mavericks, he went on to score 20 points in 16 consecutive games, tying a franchise record. The Timberwolves re-signed Wiggins to a five-year, $148 million deal extension after a stellar third season. On October 22, 2017, he scored 27 points in a 115–113 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, including the game-winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer. During that season, he also surpassed the 6,000-point mark in his career. He was 22 years and 349 days old at the time, making him the sixth-youngest player to accomplish the feat. The Timberwolves made the playoffs in 2018. This was Wiggins’ first appearance in the playoffs. He started all five games he played in and averaged 15.8 points per game. During the 2018-19 season, Wiggins missed the Timberwolves’ match against the Toronto Raptors on October 24 due to a slight injury to his right quadriceps. The Timberwolves eventually lost the game. Wiggins made his comeback against the Utah Jazz on October 31, 2018. Wiggins’ form was not perfect in the early half of the season. In a match against the Bulls on November 24, he failed to score a single point for the first time in his professional career. By December 2018, he has begun to reclaim his former form. He scored 26 points against the Hornets, 22 points against the Blazers, 30 points against the Thunder, and 31 points against the Celtics. He recorded a season-high 40 points against the Thunder on January 8, 2019.

NATIONAL CAREER: Andrew Wiggins was a member of the Canadian junior national team that took bronze at the FIBA Under-17 World Championship in 2010 and the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship in 2012. He was selected for the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship, which served as a qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, by the Canadian national team in August 2015. Wiggins was instrumental in Canada’s bronze-medal-winning performance at the competition.
