During colonial rule, Sharad was born in the Babai, Central Provinces, and Berar, British India on July 1, 1947. At present, it lies in Makhan Nagar in the Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh. He was born into a family of farmers to Nand Kishore Yadav and Sumitra Yadav. He also has 6 siblings including 5 brothers and a sister.
After completing his studies and entering Indian Politics, he married Dr. Rekha Yadav on February 15, 1989. Together, the couple had two children, a daughter- Suhasini Raj Rao, and a son Shantanu Bundela. While his daughter is associated with the Indian National Congress, his son is a post-graduate of the University of London and is yet to join Indian Politics.

Besides being a politician, Sharad is also an engineer, agriculturist, and educationist by profession. Right after completing high school, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Robertson College of Jabalpur. Afterward, he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Jabalpur Engineering College.
Sharad Yadav Political Career
Inspired by the thoughts of social reformer and socialist leader Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sharad entered politics during school. He joined Bharatiya Lok Dal and actively participated in popular movements in Madhya Pradesh. But it was in 1974 when he won a by-poll from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and became a Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha for the first time. He was re-elected for the same in 1977 as well.
In 1979, when Janata Party split, he became part of the Charan Singh-led faction which later became Lok Dal. In 1981, he was the losing candidate from Lok Dal in Amethi, where Rajiv Gandhi won. He again lost an election in 1984 as Lok Dal candidate from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. In 1989, he won the same place as the Janata Dal member.
Four four times in 1991, 1996, 1999, and 2009, he won from Madhepura Lok Sabha Constituency in Bihar. He also lost there in 1998, 2004, 2014, and 2019 respectively.
From 2003 to 2016, he also served as the president of Janata Dal (United) but was removed after being accused of anti-party activities. He was also an accused in the Hawala Scandal but was later freed from all the charges by the SUpreme Court of India.
Sharad Yadav Loktantrik Janata Dal
Yadav has always been a non-supporter of the Bhartiya Janta Party due to ideological differences. That is why when Janata Dal (United) decided to form an alliance with BJP in Bihar, the popular leader parted ways from the party.
Afterward, he formed the Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) with Ali Anwar in May 2018. The All India Backward and Minorities Communities EMployees Federation’s (BAMCEF) political wing Bahujan Mukti Party and Veerendra Kumar-led JD(U) unit also merged with LJD.
On March 20, 2022, following a successful operation of almost four years, LJD merged with the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD).
Sharad Yadav Death
On January 12, 2023, the famous Indian Politician breathed his last at his residence in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. He was ailing from kidney-related issues for a long time and was on dialysis.
Sharad collapsed at home and was rushed to the Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram. Following the doctor’s examination and CPR, he was declared dead.
The official confirmation regarding the same was given by Sharad’s daughter Suhasini on Twitter. Since then, President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and others along with the admirers of Sharad have been expressing their condolences.
