It is known that B S Yeddyurappa started his career as a first division clerk in the social welfare department and later set up his own hardware shop in Shivamogga. Since he was associated with Rashtriya Swamasevak Sangh from 1970, but he started his political career as the president of the Taluk Unit of the Jana Sangh in the year 1972. He was elected as Councillor of Shikaripur Municipal Council (Shimoga District, Karnataka) on 16th August 1975. And then later in February 1977, he was elected as President, Shikaripur Municipal Council. During the year 1980, he was elected as president, Shikaripur Taluk Unit of Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) and then he entered Karnataka Legislative Assembly after he got victorious in the 1983 elections. This election was responsible for bringing a turning point to his public life and his entire political career got shaped because of this victory. From 1985 to 1988 he served as Shimoga District BJP President and then in 1985, he was elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly for the 2nd time. He then worked as Karnataka State BJP President during the year 1988 and then for the third time, he was elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1989 elections. He also worked as Secretary for All India BJP during the year 1992. In 1994, he got elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly for the 4th time and worked as the Opposition Leader in Karnataka Legislative Assembly. In 2006, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka in the JD(S) and BJP Coalition Government led by Sri H.D.Kumaraswamy. As a Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, he took new Initiatives for the upliftment of families under BPL. He was selected as Karnataka’s Chief Minister in 2007 and then in 2008.
