O’Sullivan was born on December 5, 1975, in Wordsley, West Midlands, to Ronald John & Maria (née Catalano) O’Sullivan, who owned a string of sex stores in London’s Soho district. His mother is from Sicily, and O’Sullivan spent her summers as a child in the village near Agrigento where she did grow up. He was raised in the Manor Road neighborhood of Chigwell, Essex, where he now resides. He is the very first cousin of snooker player Maria Catalano, who has won the women’s world championship. His father was condemned to life in jail for murder in 1992 and also was released in 2010 after completing an 18-year term. Even in victory, he is famous for his perfection and self-criticism. He was diagnosed with drug addiction and depression early in his career. Steve Peters, a close friend, and psychotherapist has been helping him conquer his mood fluctuations since 2011. Ronnie rose to prominence as a snooker player at an early age, making his first century break at the age of ten. Two years later, he received his first total clearance, and at the age of 13, he was crowned British Under-16 Champion. The following year, he made his televised debut before going on to earn his maiden maximum break in the 1991 British Amateur Championships. Before turning professional, he won the IBSF World Under-21 Championship the same year. During his first professional season, he won 74 from his first 76 matches, establishing a winning streak of 38 consecutive triumphs. After achieving the record for the fastest best-of-9 frame match, he acquired the moniker “The Rocket.” He was the youngest player to compete in the World Championship, although he was eliminated in the first round.
