She started her career when she was 18 years of age in 2014. Mirabai won her first silver medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She won the silver medal in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting division. She was qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 48 kg category but due to her failed attempts at lifting the weights, she was left with no medals and could not complete the event.
In 2021, she went a step ahead and became the first Indian weightlifter to qualify for the 2021 Summer Olympics. Chanu secured the 2nd position in the 49 kg category. Her lift of achievements is very long. She was honored by the Chief Minister of Manipur and awarded the cash prize of Rs. 2 million. Chanu received India’s highest civilian sports honor Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
