Michael Ashley Ball OBE (born 27 June 1962) is a singer, presenter, and actor from England. He made his West End debut as Marius Pontmercy in the original London production of Les Misรฉrables in 1985, and went on to shine as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera in 1987. Also, He and Captain Tom Moore’s performance of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart on April 24, 2020, with combined chart sales of 82,000, making it the fastest-selling song of 2020.
He received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical twice. He received his first Tony Award in 2008 for his performance as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray,ย and his second in 2013 for the lead role in the production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
In the 2015 Birthday Honours, he was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to musical theatre.

Ball was born in the Worcestershire town of Bromsgrove to a Welsh mother and an English father. When he was three years old, he went to Dartmoor with his parents. He went to Plymouth College, an independent boarding school, when he was 11 years old because his parents felt it would provide him with a decent education.
