Infantino faced controversy when several issues arose regarding the immigrant workers’ rights who worked in preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He confirmed that migrant workers were given work and paid rather than charity. The tournament was condemned by the human rights group Amnesty International which said that the workers were subjected to forced labor. However, he did not pay heed to this and lashed the western countries saying that they are in no place to give “moral lessons” to other nations.

In the 2016 Panama Papers, Infantino was implicated in the FIFA corruption scandal which also showed that UEFA undertook deals with certain figures with whom they have denied any relationship earlier.
