Carvey was born in Missoula, Montana, to Billie Dahl, a teacher, & Bud Carvey, a high school business teacher, as the fourth of five children (three elder brothers and one younger sister). Carvey is the brother of Brad Carvey, the Video Toaster’s engineer and designer. Brad is loosely based on the character Garth Algar. Carvey was raised Lutheran and has English, German, Irish, Norwegian, as well as Swedish ancestry.
