Alexei Popyrin won his first professional ITF title in July 2017 at the Poland F4 in Mragowo, Poland. Popyrin started the 2018 season ranked No.622, achieving a career-high ranking 25 times over the course of the season peaking at No.147 in November. In January 2018, Popyrin qualified for an ATP World Tour tournament for the first time at the Sydney International beating Nicolas Mahut and Federico Delbonis. In August 2018, Popyrin qualified for and won the Jinan Challenger in China and became the third youngest teenager in 2018 to win a professional title. Popyrin commenced 2019 with wildcards into Brisbane International and Sydney International, losing in the first round in both.

In February 2021 he entered the Singapore Open and defeated Alexander Bublik in the final round to win his first ATP title and his ranking increased to 82. He lost to Rafael Nadal in the 2021 French Open. His performance in the US Open 2021, was probably the best one when he progressed to the third round with a win over Grigor, Dimitrov. By the end of 2021, he had an ATP Singles Rating of 61.

In 2022, his form dropped and he didn’t make it till the third round in all of the 2022 Australian Open, 2022 BNP Paribas Open, and 2022 Miami Open. However, he gained back his form in the 2022 BNP Paribas Primrose Bordeaux and got the challenger title by winning over Quentin Halys. In the ongoing Adelaide International tournament, Popyrin is back in his form and has shocked everyone with his amazing performance. In the first round, he defeated world No 6 Felix Auger-Aliassime. During the match, he had a 0-3 in the second set, and was down for a mini-break but clawed his way back in the game and won over his opponent with only 1 point.
