Born on December 8, 1966, in Dublin, Ireland, O’Connor had a difficult childhood. Her parents divorced very early and her mother was often abused. She was sent to the store and was sent to the Reform School. When her musical career began when her popular Irish band Tua Nua “discovered” and wrote her popular song “Take My Hand. Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, was released in 1990 on a new label. The album went double platinum and remains the best-selling album of her career ten years later.

The album included Prince’s song “Nothing Compares 2 U“, which was also made into a video single. O’Connor went on to record Am I Not Your Girl? “1992. The album includes standards she grew up listening to, such as “I Want To Be Loved By You”, “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” and “Success Fails Our Home”. ”

In 1994, O’Connor contributed to the albums No Prima Donna: The Songs of Van Morrison and The Glory of Gershwin. Her album, 1994’s Universal Mother, was a return to folk rock. Chrysalis was eventually absorbed by EMI, which went out of business in 1997, just ten days after the release of O’Connor’s Gospel OakEP. The album, her last of the decade, was later reissued by Columbia. When she played the Virgin Mary in the 1998 film Butcher Boy, she experimented with a new art form.

That same year, O’Connor played at the annual music festival Lilith Expo, where she became a popular regular, and after actively seeking a new label, signed a four-album deal with Atlantic Records. Faith and Courage, released in 2000, was her first album on the label. Top hits published by The Atlantic included “A Song for Emma,” “I’m Fine, Daddy” and “No Man’s Woman,” which the press criticized for being too autobiographical.

O’Connor was found dead in her flat in Herne Hill, south London, on 26 July 2023, aged 56. Her family released a statement later that day but did not specify the cause of her death. The following day, Scotland Yard reported that O’Connor’s death was not being treated as suspicious
