Lindsay was born on born 8 July 1973 in Stockport, Cheshire. She did her schooling at St. Winifred’s Primary School in Heaton Mersey, Stockport. Her first television debut was at the age of seven on Top of the Pops. It happened when her school choir, St Winifred’s School Choir, released There’s No One Quite Like Grandma. the song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1980. She did her further schooling at St Anne’s RC High School in Heaton Chapel, Stockport. Sally Lindsay did her major in English at the University of Hull and had ambitions of becoming a journalist. However, when she was cast in a play and enjoyed the experience, Sally decided to pursue Theatre. She then studied at North Cheshire Theatre School before indulging in stand up comedy.

At the age of 24, she met and became friends with comedian Peter Kay. Consequently, they performed together in Phoenix Nights and in the video for the Comic Relief single Is This the Way to Amarillo. In 2000, she also appeared in an episode of The Royle Family, playing Twiggy’s girlfriend, Michelle. Lindsay filmed a documentary for the Coronation Street show to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Lindsay also narrated numerous shows for the programme. Sally Lindsay also became a permanent panellist on Loose Women by replacing Coleen Nolan. She made her final appearance as a panellist in 2014. Lindsay gave voice to the character of Piella Bakewell in the 2008 BBC Wallace and Gromit film A Matter of Loaf and Death. In April 2021, Lindsay became the interim anchor of the ITV quiz show Tenable.
She played Linda in the world debut of Niel Bartlet’s ‘Everybody Loves a Winner’ for the Manchester International carnival. She then travelled with Eve Ensler’s “The Va*ina Monologues”, which ended in November 2009. Lindsay acted as Helen in Shelagh Delaney’s approved drama A Taste of Honey in November and December 2008 at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
