It was the most solid performance for an Italian. Although, his result was not admitted as a national record due to a 2.8 m/s tailwind.
Marcell Jacobs set the Italian record in the 100 meters with a time of 9.95s in Savona, Italy, and became the 150th person in history to break the 10-second barrier.
In August 2021 he became the 2020 men’s 100 m Olympic champion. He won the starting round in 9.94, surpassing his Italian record, and in his semi-final, he was third with 9.84. This also set a new European Record and qualified him as third overall for the final.
