What Happened to Madison Sims
Sims, 17, attended the school prom on Friday night at Paul W. Bryant High School in Cottondale, Alabama, just outside Tuscaloosa. She and her companion, 18-year-old Samuel Brown, were killed when the 2022 Tesla Sims was driving crashed with a semi-truck near Skyland Boulevard East and Interstate 20/59, according to authorities. The accident happened around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday.
Sims, 17, and her boyfriend, Samuel Brown, 19, were killed, and two other teenagers were injured, when their car became entangled beneath a semi-tractor trailer.

“Madison was a shining light to everyone she came into contact with,” stated Malcolm Gross, Madison’s maths teacher, in the school’s statement. “Despite her quiet demeanour, her presence spoke volumes to both her peers and adults.” She will be sorely missed.”- In her Facebook post, Bryant Principal Lydia Edwards also remembered Sims.
“Madison will always be alive in the hearts that she left behind,” Edwards said. “In our block, she was a kind and quiet student. Madison understood the importance of close friendships and adored everyone who entered her friend circle. Madison spoke softly, and her sweet grin was easily shared when she spoke with peers and adults. Madison is no longer with us, but she will live on in our hearts forever. As we mourn the loss of our lovely student, Madison, our bereaved families and Stampede Nation need prayers for strength today and hope for tomorrow.”- Brown, a senior, participated in football and basketball at R.C. Hatch High School in Uniontown.
“We are Stampede strong, and we are Madison strong.” Madison was a buddy, and she leaves a huge hole,” Paul Bryant High School principal Lydia Edwards said.
The balloon release was the final event, and when everyone let go, the emotions flowed out. A young lady was carried from the pitch.
“It’s just a difficult time with what’s going on.” We’re just trying to rekindle everyone’s spirit. “It becomes oppressive just thinking about it,” Paul Bryant High School baseball coach Dondre’ Collins said.

The baseball pitch was lined with pupils, each holding a balloon, as school officials recognised the junior’s friends and family before releasing the balloons into the sky. Oscar Ford, Sim’s grandfather, was one of the few family members present.
“Trying to stay strong, as we would say, but seeing and witnessing what I saw today is really overwhelming,” he said. Ford described his bond with his granddaughter as “strong and loving.” He spoke to her for the last time just before prom. He recalls the chat fondly, remarking, “she was so loving, so warm that day.” I replied,’sugar, do you know what you’re asking, I’m almost seventy years old, I’m too old for a prom,’ but she said, ‘granddaddy, I want you there,’ and it moved me y’all and meant something.” Sims wanted him in her prom photos, but they never got to take them.
“I was quite busy. As you may know, I am the pastor of two churches. I was really busy and couldn’t get away at the time, so I called her, and she said she went back into her little lovely mode, ‘granddaddy I know I know,’ which is what I adored about her. “I loved her, and I still do, and I will always love her,” Sims continued.
He feels her death was predetermined by God, and he has a message for other youngsters. “They need to understand that the choices they make may be the last ones they make,” he says.
