John planned to be a music technology professional until a television producer suggested that he would look good on screen. Leslie sent a demo tape to every TV station and eventually, John was hired to present Yorkshire TV’s The Music Box. He moved to London when the show ended in 1987. John was the first Scottish presenter at Blue Peter on 20 April 1989. He was also the tallest presenter at Blue Peter being 6’4 ft tall.
