Gautam was born and brought up in Delhi, his father’s name is Vijay Vig and his mother’s name is Anju Vig. He also has a sister Ankita Vig. In Childhood, he wanted to be a cricketer, but due to some miscellaneous reasons, he didn’t pursue his dream of being a cricketer and had to leave his dream. He went to Guru Harikrishna Public School, New Delhi.

Gautam Vig used to work in a bank in Canada, after some time he decided to come back and pursue his dream of becoming an Actor. In 2012 he came to Mumbai for the first time and explored the Film industry and try his luck in it. When he came back from Canada he used to weigh 120kg, and nobody used to take him seriously as an Actor; however, he worked pretty hard on his fitness to get lean and fit.
Gautam Vig got his break as a Television actor in 2016, when he got his role as Ali in a show named Namakaran on Star Plus. Ali was the childhood best friend of the lead actor Avni in Namakaran.
He has also worked in Television shows like Tantra as Akshat and Ishq Subhan Allah as Miraj.
In 2017 Gautam was also featured in a Bollywood Movie Flat 211 as Sameer.
In 2020-21 he worked on a television show Pinjara Khubsurati Ka as Piyush on Colors TV and Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 in 2020.
