Gabrielle Thomas was born on December 7, 1996, in Atlanta, Georgia. The name of her mother and father are Jennifer Randall and Desmond Thomas. She also has a twin brother named Andrew. Thomas is of mixed ethnicity. She is African-American on her mother’s side and Jamaican on her father’s side. In 2007, her mother relocated the family to Massachusetts to lecture at the University of Massachusetts after finishing her Ph.D. at Emory University. When her family settled in Florence, Massachusetts, she originally played softball and soccer. But not long after she got interested in the track and field team. She was coached by Michelle Lawson. In high school, Thomas ran all 4 years for Williston Northampton School where she set multiple school records, was MVP every year.
Gabrielle Thomas is a graduate of Harvard University. Here, she graduated with an undergraduate degree in neurobiology and global health. While she was studying at Harvard, she won 22 conference titles across her three years of athletics. They were won over 6 events. She set the school and Ivy League records in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the indoor 60 meters.
Illness
After graduating from Harvard, she moved to Austin, Texas. Here she was coached by Tonja Buford-Bailey. In May 2020, Thomas was temporarily suspended for three location failures and was sanctioned with a two-year period of ineligibility. She submitted new testimony in June to annul one failure and was subsequently acquitted in July.
Thomas encountered a health alarm in 2021 when an MRI reported a tumor on her liver. But, it turned out to be a harmless one. She is currently continuing a master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin in epidemiology.

Gabrielle Thomas played for the United States in the 200-meter race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her time of 21.61 seconds in the event at the United States Olympic trials on June 26th, 2021 put her in the 3rd-fastest position ever. The time even shocked Thomas herself.
At the Olympics, Thomas won a bronze medal, running in the finals with a time of 21.87, behind Elaine Thompson Herah (gold) and Christine Mboma (silver).
