Chelsea Handler was born on born February 25, 1975, in Livingston, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Rita, her mother who is a homemaker, and Seymour Handler, her father, who is a second-hand car dealer. Chelsea has a mixed ethnic background as her American father was Ashkenazi Jewish. Furthermore, her mother was born in  Germany who came to the United States in 1958 and is a follower of Christianity( Mormon). Chelsea Handler lost her mother in 2006. Unfortunately, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and battled the illness for approximately 15 years. Handler was raised with reformed Jewish beliefs and ideal and had a Bat Mitzvah ceremony. It is a ceremony that is done to specify the age of religious maturity. She lived in Martha’s Vineyard, where her parents owned a house. Chelsea did her schooling at Livingston High School. 

At age 19, she moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles, where she lived in her aunt’s place, in Bel Air, and tried acting while working as a waitress to support her daily chores. Handler chose to pursue stand-up comedy after narrating her story about driving under the influence to a class of other offenders, who found it funny.

 She is the youngest child of her family. She is one of the six siblings. The other siblings are two sisters and three brothers. Her eldest brother, Chet, expired when he was just 21, in a hiking accident in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.
