Sevu Reece was born and brought up in Fiji. He has attained his education from Queen Victoria School. His exact age is 24 years old. He used to participate in events like a high jumper and a 100m sprinter. In his last year at high school, he finished 5th in the High Jump in his category with a jump record of 1.70m. In the same competition, he finished 3rd along with his teammates on the 4x100m relay team. Later, in 2014, Reece moved to New Zealand and attended Hamilton Boys’ High School. This is where he played 15 rugby for the first time.

His excellent performances as a centre and outside back for the team gave him recognition and he was called by the Waikato squad for the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup. He started his career in a Ranfurly Shield defence against Thames Valley on 6 June 2016. He went on to make appearances during the season in 12 Ranfurly Shield and Mitre 10 Cup.

In May 2018 Irish Pro14 club Connacht announced that they had signed Reece and was arranged to join the team after finishing his Waikato commitments in the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup. But in October 2018 it was declared that Connacht had decided to back out of the deal because of the domestic violence case against Reece. Though he pleaded guilty in the case but was discharged without conviction.

In December 2018, Sevu Reece was invited by the Crusaders squad as a cover and was later put in as the main team after many strong performances in the pre-season. In March 2019, he started as the right-wing against the Chiefs as a cover for Manasa Mataele who had sustained major injuries the previous week and was ruled out for the rest of the season.  He became a starter on the right-wing for the remainder of the season and scored 15 tries. This led to him topping the try-scoring charts for the 2019 Super Rugby season.

Reece was part of the Crusaders’ side that won the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season. He scored a try in the final as the side won their fifth title in a row.

In the early hours of July 1, 2018, a very drunk Reece had gotten into a quarrel with his girlfriend of two years. The incident happened in the Hamilton central business district. Reece yelled at his partner and trailed her down the street, dragging her to the ground. She sustained bruising to the side of her face and was very injured waist down.

Sevu Reece was consequently granted a discharge without punishment as he had to take up a contract in Ireland. The decision was given by Judge Denise Clark in the Hamilton District Court. He accepted that the victim had forgiven Reece, that the couple was going through counselling. He has admitted that he has a problem with alcohol and had been sober for three months.

Sevu Reece expressed regret and apologized at a therapeutic justice meeting. Judge Denise Clark imposed a NZ$ 750 fine. This was done after a letter from Connacht, stating that his contract offer would be withdrawn if he was sentenced, was read in court.
