The TV personality was tragically killed on valentine’s day, February 14, 2013. She was shot multiple times by her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius, who is a former Paralympic athlete. Pistorius claimed that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder at his home and shot her through a closed bathroom door in self-defense. However, it was Steenkamp on the other side of the restroom door and unfortunately, she was hit by three bullets. Sadly, Pistorius did not know that and he used a cricket bat to smash open the bathroom door so he could get to the intruder. But his world collapsed when he found his girlfriend mortally wounded.

Oscar then tried to call for rescue and provided emergency medical care. The neighbor and medical professional Johan Stipp tried to do a jaw-lift procedure on Steenkamp. He examined the condition and noticed that she had no peripheral pulse, no evidence of respiratory motions, and immobile, dilated pupils. It was clear that she had suffered a fatal injury. Steenkamp was dead even before the ambulance could arrive.
