From 1985 to 1989 Mark joined the United States Army Reserve where he served as a medical specialist for three years. He worked at a furniture factory and was studying history at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In the year 2018, Robinson spoke in favor of gun rights at a meeting of the Greensboro City Council debating whether or not to cancel a gun show in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. His video was shared on Facebook by Mark Walker which got viral and has been seen over 150,000,000 times.
