Shaw made his professional wrestling debut at World League Wrestling on September 21, 2007, after receiving instruction from Curtis Hughes at the WWA4 Wrestling School. On August 8, 2010, in Hardcore Justice, Shaw made his debut for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). Dressed as Lupus, Shaw assaulted Tommy Dreamer during his match against Raven. Shaw took part in the IMPACT Gut Check each month in 2012. Shaw made one appearance at TNA X-Travaganza on January 12, 2013, competing in a seven-man Xscape match that was won by Christian York and broadcast on April 5, 2013.
The following time Shaw was on television was on the Impact Wrestling program from the mental hospital that aired on May 22. When Gunner was later identified as the guest, a man entered the room and announced that Shaw had him. Gunner promised to assist him in overcoming his lunacy and fixation with Hemme. In the weeks that followed, segments were shown in which Gunner attempted to assist Shaw in a number of ways by explaining to Shaw why he understood what Shaw was going through and engaging in a number of activities with Shaw, such as looking through Shaw’s drawings and playing Go Fish with Shaw. Shaw secured a deal with WWE and would go to the WWE Performance Center, it was revealed on February 11, 2019. On March 16, he competed in an NXT house event and lost to Fabian Aichner. His ring name was changed to Dexter Lumis in June after he made his debut with his true name.
NXT: New Year’s Evil was hosted by Lumis on January 6, 2021. He lost to Johnny Gargano in a non-title match on the next week’s NXT due to interference by Austin Theory. Prior to the North American title match between Gargano and The Way at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, Lumis kidnapped Theory from The Way.
Lumis was released from his WWE contract on April 29, 2022. On the Raw program from August 8, 2022, Lumis made his WWE comeback.
