Shyne Barrow’s name has a very long history which seems to entertain many of his fans. He was born Jamal Michael Barrow on ย November 8, 1978. His name was later changed to Moses Michael Levi Barrow. He is the son of Frances Imeon Myvette and Dean Barrow, who were not married at the time of his birth. The rapper was born in Belize but he moved to New York City as a child with his family and began to rap thereafter. After shifting to New York, he began to develop a strong interest in the hip-hop culture of the 1980s and 1990s.
Shyne Barrow and his mother resided in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of East Flatbush. It is the place where he became interested in musician and rapping after being discovered in a barbershop by Imani Hayley. His father is a politician, who was elected as the Prime Minister of Belize in 2008. He used to spend summers with his father in Belize and the rest of the time with his mother.

Unfortunately, on the brink of releasing his debut album, he got involved in a nightclub shooting incident on December 27, 1999, leaving 3 people severely injured. In June 2001 he was condemned of assault and was therefore sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, his 2000 debut album was nevertheless a success and he continued to record music while imprisoned.ย At the time of the accident, he was accompanied by his mentor Sean Combsย and his then-girlfriendย Jennifer Lopez.ย
