Alice Dearing was born on 23 April 1997 in Birmingham, England. As of 2021, she is 24 years old. She spent most of her childhood in a suburb of Birmingham and began swimming at the age of about eight. She completed her school education at the Royal Wolverhampton School and was admitted to Loughborough University where she studied Social Media and Political Communication. At the university, she was coached there by Andi Manley. She is of Ghanaian and English descent and is the second black swimmer to represent Great Britain who swims competitively. Before her Achieng Ajulu-Bushell had represented the team in 2010. She also hopes to be the first black female swimmer to represent Britain at an Olympic competition in 2021.

Alice Dearing Career

Alice Dearing completed fourth in the 7.5km event at the 2014 World Junior Open Water championships. She was also the one who won the European Junior bronze in 2015. Later on, in 2016 she became 10km World Junior Open Water champion. In this race, she overtook Nikoletta Kiss in the final 50 meters with a sprint finish to finish 0.5 seconds ahead in 2:04:24.1. This was also the first time that a British won a gold medal at a World Junior Open Water Championship.

Senior Career

Her senior international competitive debut was made at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships. The race that she participated in was a women’s 10 km event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships Dearing. Here, she finished 17th. This also was the reason that she missed out on qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Though, the best time that she had achieved in her senior career to date was at the FINA Marathon Swim World Series event in Doha. In February 2020 she finished tenth in 1:56.47.5. She was less than seven seconds slower than gold medallist Leonie Beck.
