Williams went to Gorton Elementary School in Lake Forest for elementary school and Deer Path Junior High School for high school. Williams went to neighboring Larkspur Redwood High School. His classmates voted him “Most Likely Not to Succeed” and “Funniest” during his graduation in 1969. Williams enrolled in Claremont Men’s College in Claremont, California, after graduating from high school to study political science, but dropped out to pursue acting. Williams spent three years studying drama at the Institution of Marin, a community college in Kentfield, California.
