Tom Felton Early Life

Thomas Andrew Felton was born on 22 September 1987 in Epsom, Surrey, England to a British couple. Felton was born in a very middle-class family and household with a lot of family members by his side. Furthermore, he quickly gained a massive amount of interest in music during his childhood. He would listen to music and try to sing songs for hours on end. As time passed, he would try to research his favorite artists and get a hold of instruments as well. Tom was the youngest son in his family and was deeply loved and cared for by all his siblings as well.

He was born to Sharon Anstey and Peter Felton thirty-five years ago. However, he was just a teenager when his parents split up and divorced. His maternal grandfather, Nigel Anstey, was a geophysicist and worked for a very long time. Tom has four siblings, Jonathan Felton, Ashley Felton, and Chris Felton and he was the youngest amongst them all.

Tom Felton Education

After Tom’s parents split up, he usually stayed with his mother. His mother was very strict and concerned about his studies. Even though she always encouraged him to put his hard work into his music, she also pushed him to study with focus as well. Up until the age of 13, Felton attended West Horsley’s Cranmore School for his education.

However, soon when the situation with his parents changed, and he had to move places, he also left his school and enrolled in a new school. Thereafter, he transferred to the Howard of Effingham School for his secondary education. As we have already established, he was always very interested in singing and music. Hence, when he got the opportunity to work on his music, he decided to grab it. Tom joined several school choirs in his childhood. And soon, he was invited to join the Guildford Cathedral Choir.

Felton’s Glorious Career

Apart from being interested in singing and music, he soon started becoming inclined towards his acting too. Felton started appearing in commercials for brands including Barclaycard and Commercial Union. Eventually, after working for more than 20 commercials, he landed his first-ever movie. Felton starred in Peter Hewitt’s The Borrowers, where he portrayed the part of Peagreen Clock. This earned him his first role in a major motion picture. Later, an uproar started when people got to know that Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the movie based on J. K. Rowling’s book of the same name, are holding auditions in 1999.

Felton decided it was worth giving a try. He read the characters of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley because he hadn’t read any of the books at the time of the auditions. However, when the directors asked him to read Draco Malfoy’s character, they simply loved him. And this was simply it for Tom. Harry Potter series made him loved and recognized all over the world.

Later, during the interviews, he said, “No,” when he was asked if he anticipated portraying a good guy in the future. Tom replied that he is not sure. He stated that he thinks he is content to continue being who he is for the time being. However, he does look forward to playing a good character, or at least someone different, someone not so bitter after the Potter legacy is ended.

Tom Felton’s Other Works

Harry Potter’s legacy, however, never really ended. He got all the love and recognition in the series and the world will forever remember him as Draco Malfoy. Later, very recently, Felton made his London West End stage debut in the play 2:22 A Ghost Story in May 2022. Felton and Mandip Gill are the stars.

After years of his acting career, Felton wrote a biography about his time as an actor in the Harry Potter series called Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard. The book was released in October 2022. The book debuted at number one in The New York Times nonfiction best-seller list for the week of October 22, 2022.
