Sumit holds Indian nationality and belongs to the Jatt caste. The disability due to which Sumit had to participate in Paralympics and not Olympics was his prosthetic leg. He had to undergo a leg amputation after he suffered a motorbike accident in 2015.

Antil started his training in 2017. He was coached by Nitin Jaiswal in Delhi. Due to the impeccable skills and techniques that he learned, he participated in several national and international events and marked his presence with amazing performances. Seeing the potential in a boy of young age, GoSports Foundation inducted him into the Para Championship Program in 2019. Since then, Sumit has only gotten better.
In the same year, he participated in World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy where he won the Silver Medal and broke the record in the F64 Category. He made his country proud when he bagged the gold medal in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.
