Shujaat Bukhari was an Indian Journalist and editor. He was the Editor – in – Chief of Rising Kashmir, a Srinagar based newspaper. He has been killed by terrorists on 14th June 2018 in Srinagar at 7 pm. Before joining Rising Kashmir, Mr. Bukhari had also worked with The Hindu and many more news agencies. The terrorist killed him when he was coming out of the office to head for the home. Four assailants fired multiple times at his head and abdomen from very close range. His two security officer also killed in incident.

Bukhari completed his Master’s in Journalism from Ateneo de Manila University as a fellow of the Asian Centre for Journalism. Afterwards he also received companionship of World Press Institute. In addition, He was a fellow of the East–West Center, Hawaii.
Shujaat Bukhari Career:
Bukhari was the president of Adbee Markaz Kamraz, a cultural and literary organization in Kashmir. He was instrumental in organizing several Kashmir peace conferences and was part of the Track II diplomacy between India and Pakistan. Between 1997 and 2012 he was a correspondent for The Hindu in Srinagar. Lastly he was a Kashmiri journalist and the founding editor of Rising Kashmir, a Srinagar-based newspaper. Once Shujaat Bukhari was wrote that “Threats to life, intimidation, assault, arrest and censorship have been part of the life of a typical local journalist” He never afraid of death for India.
Bukhari’s Death:
According to the reports, three terrorists on a motorcycle attacked Bukhari around 19:00 as he was leaving his office and boarding his car. Without delay, he was taken to the hospital but later doctor declared him dead as well as his 2 security officers are also died in that attack. On 14 June, Police released CCTV footage of suspects believed to be responsible for the killing – one with his face covered in a helmet, and the other two with masks on a motorcycle. On 28 June 2018 the Jammu & Kashmir Police released the list of four suspects namely Sajad Gul (based in Pakistan), Azad Ahmed Malik, Muzafar Ahmad Bhat and Naveed Jatt. Azad Ahmad Malik, with 5 other terrorists was killed in an encounter on 23 November. Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, with 3 other terrorists was killed on 15 March 2020.
