Lisa Carrington Life

She was born on 23 June 1989 in Tauranga, Carrington. Though she spent most of her childhood in Ōhope, a satellite town of Whakatane in the eastern Bay of Plenty. She is of Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki and Ngāti Porou descent. There is nothing much known about her parents. She has not revealed anything about her immediate family and her siblings. She finishes her high school education at Whakatane High School and received her degree from Massey University in Albany.

The name of her fiance is Michael Buck. The couple has been dating for a while and got engaged on March 11, 2021.

Lisa Carrington Career

In June 2009 she acquired a bronze medal at the World Cup regatta held in Szeged, Hungary. She was competing beside Teneale Hatton in the women’s K-2 1000 meters event. In May 2010 the team won the gold medal in the event at a World Cup regatta in Vichy, France.

Lisa Carrington and Hatton won three gold medals at the 2010 Oceania Canoe Championships. It was the first time a team of New Zealand had reached the finals of the World Championship at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznań, Poland.

At the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, Lisa Carrington acquired the gold medal in the women’s K–1 200 meters event. This was the first time a New Zealand woman had won a canoeing World Championship title. The result allowed them to be on a pedestal for the Olympic qualification for New Zealand. She was also honoured with the Māori Senior Sports Woman of the Year Award.

Olympics

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she retained her gold medal in the K-1 200 meters event. She had also won a bronze medal in the K-1 500 meters event. This made her the first New Zealand woman to win more than one medal at the same Olympic games. Carrington was honoured with being the flag bearer at the 2016 closing ceremony. She is instructed by Gordon Walker.

As for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Carrington won her third consecutive gold medal in the K-1 200 meters event on 3 August 2021. On the same day, she and partner Caitlin Regal secured a gold medal in the K-2 500 meters event.
