John Challis was born on 16 August 1942 in Bristol. When  Challis was one year old, the family shifted to southeast London. John was the only kid of his parent. His father, James Alec was a Civil Servant from Sheffield. He attended the state boarding Ottershaw School near Woking, Surrey. After leaving school he worked as a trainee estate agent prior to becoming a professional actor.

Challis Personal Life

Carol Challis is the fourth wife of John Challis and is his current wife. They married in 1993 and currently live at Wigmore Abbey’s historic grange house in Wigmore, Herefordshire. Challis does not have any children as of right now but he also said he wishes to have a daughter. Prior to his current marriage, Challis was married Sabina Franklyn that ended in 1988. His other wife was Debbie Arnold and his first wife, Jean Challis with whom he got divorced. His aunt in Sheffield is his only living relative now.

Challis has written two volumes of autobiography, Being Boycie and Boycie & Beyond. From April 2012 he embarked on a book tour to promote Being Boycie, starting at Waterstones in Uxbridge.
