Early Life of Walter Smith

Walter was born on 24 February 1948 in Lanark, Scotland. He grew up in the Carmyle neighbourhood of Glasgow’s East End and was a lifelong Rangers fan. Unfortunately, he passed away on October 26, 2021. Prior to beginning his career, he was employed by the South of Scotland Electricity Board. After leaving the earlier job, his football career was launched in the 1960s with Junior League team Ashfield. Not much is known about his early life in detail as he didn’t expose his life to an extent. We do not know where he received his high school education from. He also has not revealed anything about his family or his siblings. He was a very private person. Details regarding his college degree or in which subject she has specialized are lacking as well.

However, Smith severe medical condition destroyed their happily married life and loving family. He underwent an undefined medical operation in March 2021 that required him to stay in the hospital. The family stayed together in Lanark, Scotland.  His death occurred when the Rangers won their first Scottish Premiership title since Smith’s final season as manager in 2021.

Smith was also the senior coach presence on the touchline at Ibrox when Souness was serving as a player-manager, and he was given the role on a full-time basis when Souness departed to manage Liverpool in 1991.
