The well-known author was born to Dr. Rajab Ali and Edul Ara on August 25, 1962. She took birth in Mymensingh in East Pakistan which is present-day Bangladesh. In 1982, she married Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah but divorced him in 1986. Then she again got married to Nayeemul Islam Khan in 1990 and took divorce a year later in 1991. In the same year, she married Minar Mahmud and divorced him in 1992.

All her life, Nasrin has raised her voice for issues related to women. She proudly calls herself a Secular Humanist, Atheist, Feminist, and Human Rights Defender. In 1994, she went into exile for ten years. In the meantime, she lived in Sweden, Germany, France, and the United States. In 2004, she returned to Kolkata and lived there until 2007, when she was forced to leave the city due to ongoing protests against her. At present, she is single and living in New Delhi.

In terms of her educational qualifications, Taslima went to the Rajbari, Vidyamoyee, Residential Model School. There, she completed her SSC in 1976 and HSC in 1978. Afterward, she Mymensingh Medical College and received her MBBS degree there in 1984.

Nasrin started writing poetry during her college days. When she became a physician, she started a family planning clinic and then worked at Mitford hospital in the gynecology department and then at the Dhaka Medical College hospital in the anesthesia department.

Her poetry work includes Shikore Bipul Khudha, Amar Kichu Jay Ashe Ne, Jolpodyo, Khali Khali Lage, Golpo, and many more. Most of them were based on female oppression. Her poetry collections include SeNjuti (1986) and Nirbashito Bahire Ontore (1989). She has also written columns and essays for various newspapers, and magazines

After publishing two novels before,  her popular novel Lajja was published in 1993. In 2002, another famous novel written by Taslima was published. It was titled ‘French Lover’. Some of her other novels include Shodh, Phera, and Beshorom. Her first short story Dukkoboty Meye was published in 1994 and the other one Minu was published in 2007.

Between 2002 to 2008, she published her autobiography in seven parts. They were named ‘Amar Meyebela’, ‘Utal Hawa’, ‘Ka’, ‘Sei Sob Ondhokar’, ‘Ami Bhalo nei tumi bhalo theko priyo desh’, ‘Nei Kichu nei’, and ‘Nirbasan’. As of now, she has a total of 30 books published in her name which includes all her literary works. She has often created controversies for her views and her works have been adapted for music and television series.

Nasrin through a series of tweets that she made on January 31, 2023, accused the well-known Appollo Hospital in New Delhi of forcing her to a Hip replacement Surgery. As per her tweets, she went to the hospital for her knee pain. After the X-Ray and scans, the doctors told her she needs to have total hip replacement surgery which she thinks was not needed. Although the hospital denied all her claims and issued a statement regarding the same, the news spread rapidly across the web.
