Kerr reiterated these points emotionally during one media briefing for Game 4 of the NBA’s 2022 Western Conference Finals on May 24, 2022, following the Robb Elementary School shooting in Texas that day, in which 19 children and faculty members were murdered by a body-armor-wearing shooter wielding semi-automatic weapons. He claimed that Republicans in the United States Senate were “holding us hostage” by using the filibuster to avoid a vote on gun control laws.

Stephen Douglas Kerr (born September 27, 1965) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who currently serves as the head coach of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors (NBA). He has won eight NBA championships, five as a player (three with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs) and three as a head coach (three with the Warriors). Kerr is the only player in NBA history to win four titles in a row after 1969. Kerr has the highest career three-point field goal percentage (45.4%) of any player who has made at least 250 three-pointers in NBA history. Until it was broken, by Kyle Korver in 2010 he also held the NBA record for the highest three-point percentage in a season (52.4%).

Malcolm H. Kerr, an American professor who specialized in the Middle East, and his partner, Ann, gave birth to Steve Kerr on September 27, 1965, in Beirut, Lebanon (Zwicker). He has three brothers and sisters. After the Armenian genocide, his grandfather, Stanley Kerr, decided to volunteer with Near East Relief and saved women and orphaned children in Aleppo and Marash before settling in Beirut. Kerr grew up in Lebanon and certain other Middle Eastern countries for the majority of his childhood. Malcolm Kerr, the president of the American University of Beirut, was assassinated on January 18, 1984, at the age of 52. In the hallway outside his office, he was shot multiple times in the back of the head by gunmen with suppressed handguns. Kerr was 18 years old and a freshman in college at the time of his father’s death. Kerr attended the University of Arizona from 1983 to 1988 after being lightly recruited out of high school. He was named to the United States national team for the FIBA World Championship in Spain in the summer of 1986. It was the last time an American senior men’s team comprised entirely of amateur players won a gold medal. In the tournament, he blew out his knee, causing him to miss the entire 1986–87 season with the Wildcats. Kerr and colleague All-American teammate Sean Elliott helped the Wildcats reach the NCAA Tournament Final Four in 1988. Kerr was a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection and in 1987–88, he set an NCAA single-season record for 3-point percentage (57.3 percent, 114–199).

Kerr was drafted in the second round of the 1988 NBA draught by the Phoenix Suns. In 1989, Kerr was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was there for three seasons (1989–1992). Kerr played for the Orlando Magic for a portion of the 1992–93 season. Kerr joined the Chicago Bulls in 1993. The Bulls made the playoffs in 1993–94 and 1994–95, but they were unable to advance to the Finals without Michael Jordan the entire 1994 season and much of 1995. With Jordan back full-time for the 1995–96 season, the Bulls set an NBA record of 72–10 and won the 1996 NBA Finals over the Seattle SuperSonics.

After the 2003 NBA Finals, Kerr announced his retirement. He appeared in 910 regular-season games during his NBA career. He decided to retire as the league’s all-time leader in both single-season and career 3 shooting percentage (.524 in 1994–95). (.454). As a player, Kerr won a total of five NBA championships.
