Sinisa Mihajlovic was born to parents of mixed descent. His father, Bogdan was a Serb who worked as a truck driver, and his mother, Victoria was a Croat and worked in a shoe factory. Sinisa and his brother, Drazen were raised in Borovo Naselje.
However, his home was destroyed by Croatian forces in the Croatian War of Independence, among whom was his childhood best friend. During that time, his maternal uncle asked his mother to stay in Borovo, while his father was to be killed. Later, when the Serbian Volunteer Guard took over Borovo they captured the uncle, but however, Sinisa had his family saved. Even though getting betrayed by his childhood friend was a shock to him, he had also forgiven him and doesn’t hold any grudge against him.

Sinisa started his career in 1986 with the club NK Borovo and played for SR Croatia’s select squad for the Yugoslav inter-republic youth Football tournaments. Soon he came to be known as a young and energetic player with thunderous shots and got to play several matches. However, due to a riff between him and Dinamon, he was not called for the FIFA World Youth Championship.

In 1988 he came to the club Vojvodina through the transfer window. He along with the other new players and veterans had a memorable performance and won the Yugoslav league title ahead of the other known clubs. He participated in the European Cup, and even though he had a rough start he picked up his pace later on, but was unable to make it.

Mihajlovic was then transferred to Red Star Belgrade with whom he signed a 4-year contract worth millions and also was gifted a car and a 3-bedroom apartment by the Club. He was trained by his old mentor from Vojvodina, Ljupko Petrovic and he fit into the club perfectly. He made an outstanding performance in the European Cup semi-final and final that year and was the man of the match in the semi-final game. Sinisa was also on the team when Red Star Belgrade won the Intercontinental cup.

Roma, Sampdoria

In 1992 he joined Roma, with a lump sum transfer fee. He had an important role in Roma’s UEFA Cup Campaign where they reached the quarterfinals. However, he didn’t have good playing experience.

He was transferred to Sampdoria where he met with a former teammate Vladimir Jugovic. He made his debut in Sampdoria in the Supercoppa Italiana match against AC Milan. The match ended with mixed feelings and a draw. Sinisa helped Sampdoria to reach the 1994-1995 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup Semi-final, but the club got eliminated later on by Arsenal. He also had an amazing performance in the 1998 FIFA World Cup where he scored both a goal and an own goal.

Lazio, Inter Milan

From 1998 to 2004 he played for Club Lazio where he achieved his first silver medal in a winning match against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana of 1998 and another in 2004. Lazio was then focusing on having their respectable place in series A, but even though they had become a Coppa Italia Winner and a UEFA Cup Runner-up they achieved the 7th place. However, later on, Sinisa had an amazing time in the club as it reached the finals of the 1999 UEFA Cup Winners’Cup, won the 1999 UEFA Super Cup, and achieved other memorable victories. He ended his professional football career with Inter Milan where he played two seasons in 2004-2005 and another in 2005-2006.
