So he decided to try in movies even if he fails he could come back and join the family business. One day he saw an advertisement in the paper which was looking for fresh faces for a film he gave auditioned and get selected. He started as a supporting actor. Then he got his first break in a Tamil film, directed by K. Balachander. The film was remade in Telugu as Idi Katha Kaadu, with him and  Kamal Haasan and Chiranjeevi, the film was a big hit.
