Sarah was born in Swansea, Wales on 16 April 1967. She has a younger sibling who lives in Madrid, Spain. In her childhood, her family moved to Italy. They stayed in Rome in the beginning and then moved to Frascati. She states that she came back to the United Kingdom when she was 16. Here she completed her high school.  She then attended Lewes Technical College near Brighton. Vine got her degree in modern languages at University College London.

Vine tied a knot in 2001 with the future Conservative MP and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Gove. She met him back when she was an arts editor. He used to work as the comments editor at The Times newspaper. The couple is blessed with two children. The two have one son and one daughter. She is also the godmother of one of former Prime Minister David Cameron’s daughters.

In July 2021, a mutual statement on behalf of Vine and Gove was published which stated: “Michael and Sarah have agreed to separate and they are in the process of settling their divorce”.

Sarah Vine Career

After graduation, she worked in customer service. She worked for the retailer Hobbs Ltd. From there on she started to work for different jobs in journalism, including TV listings sub at the Daily Mirror and features editor for the magazine Tatler, before joining The Times. She was promoted to arts editor at that newspaper.

She co-wrote a book with Rosemary Davidson, in 2007. It was called The Great Big Glorious Book for Girls. She worked as a writer for about 15 years for The Time. Later on, she joined the Daily Mail, a tabloid newspaper, in 2013. In 2019, she accepted the Columnist of the Year – Popular (2018) award at the Society of Editors’ Press Awards.
