Sajid Javid was born on December 5, 1969, in Rochdale, Lancashire, to a British Pakistani family.  He has five brothers and his parents are Pakistani immigrant. They immigrated to UK in 1960s before that they farmers from the village of Rajana near Toba Tek Singh, Punjab. His father worked as a bus driver and his mother did not know how to speak English until the ten years. His family moved from Lancashire to Stapleton Road where they owned a shop.

Javid was raised mostly in Bristol. As a teenager, Javid developed an interest in financial markets and took a loan to invest. He attended Downend School, near Bristol and was racially abused at school and has brought up the matter many times in his speeches. Later he went on to attend Filton Technical College from 1986 to 1988, and finally the University of Exeter and receiving a BA in economics and politics. He is married to Laura King and has four children. He does not practice his religion, Islam but his wife practices Christianity.

Sajid Javid started working in banking and he rose up to be a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank. Soon he switched to politics and was elected to the House of Commons in 2010. He served under Prime Minister David Cameron as a Junior Treasury Minister and was later promoted to Cameron’s Cabinet as Culture Secretary. Cameron promoted Javid to Business Secretary in 2015. He remained a supporter of the unsuccessful ‘Britain Stronger in Europe’ campaign. Which was campaign for the UK to remain in the European Union. After the 2016 when UK left the European Union, he went on to serve the next Prime Minister, Theresa May, as Communities Secretary. Javid was later appointed as Home Secretary after his predecessor resigned due to a scandal. He became the first British Asian and person of colour to hold one of the Great Offices of State.

Javid stood for Leader of the Conservative Party in the 2019 leadership contest. He ended up finishing in fourth place. Boris Johnson, who won the contest, appointed him Chancellor of the Exchequer in his first Cabinet. He later resigned as Chancellor after the cabinet reshuffle and refusing a demand from Johnson and his Chief Adviser, Dominic Cummings, that he dismiss his advisers. In June 2021, following the resignation of Matt Hancock, he was reappointed to Johnson’s Cabinet as Health Secretary.
