He had to undergo surgery to get his webbed finger separated. Till the age of 12 years, Ryley did not use a wheelchair. He used to move on a skateboard.

Batt was the youngest Paralympic rugby player, at the time he was just 15 years of age.  His career graph has been on the rise ever since. In the 2008 Beijing Games, he won his team a Silver Medal. Again in the year 2012, he won the Gold Medal in London Games.

Ryley was awarded the most valuable player award in the 2010 World Rugby Wheelchair Championships and got his team a silver medal.
