His father was a firefighter, while his mother was a primary school teacher. Madden joined PACE Youth Theatre at the age of 11 to help him overcome his shyness. He had his debut part as young Andy in a film adaptation of Iain Banks’s Complicity,[8] which was released in 2000 when he was the same age.
