Oscar then tried to call for rescue and provided emergency medical care. The neighbor and medical professional Johan Stipp tried to do a jaw-lift procedure on Steenkamp. He examined the condition and noticed that she had no peripheral pulse, no evidence of respiratory motions, and immobile, dilated pupils. It was clear that she had suffered a fatal injury. Steenkamp was dead even before the ambulance could arrive.
