Ramesh Pokhriyal was born on July 15, 1959, in Pauri Garhwal, Uttrakhand, India. He was born to Vishambhari Devi & Permanand Pokhriyal. His current age is 61 Years.  According to his birth date, his zodiac sign is Cancer and have got a hobby of writing as well.

He graduated from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University with a master’s degree.  He is a poet as well as a politician, and his collection of poetry titled ‘Samarpan’ was published in 1983. The government of Mauritius honoured him with the Gopio International Award for his literary, social, and political services.

Ramesh Pokhriyal began his teaching career at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, which is linked with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In 1991, he was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Karnaprayag constituency, defeating a five-time Congress MLA. He was re-elected in the same constituency in 1993 and 1996. In 1997, he was appointed as the development minister of Uttaranchal.

He was also the chief minister of Uttarakhand from 2009 to 2011, as well as a member of the 17th Lok Sabha and the chairman of the Assurance Committee. In the Lok Sabha, he represents the Haridwar constituency. He was sworn in as the 2nd Modi Government’s Minister of Human Resource Development on May 30, 2019.

He served as Minister of Education after the ministry’s name was changed to Ministry of Education (India) in July 2020. Apart from this, Pokhriyal is a writer of novels, short tales, and poetry. In Hindi, he has written 44 books, some of which have been translated into English and other Indian languages. Some reviewers and literature enthusiasts have labeled them as “strong on patriotism, short on literary quality.” Many of his works were released between 2009 and 2011, when he was Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, by two private publishers: Vani Prakashan and Diamond Books.
Major Nirala, a Garhwali film produced by his daughter Arushi Nishank Pant and premiered in 2018, was based on one of his works.

On May 7, 1985, Pokhriyal married Kusum Kanta Pokhriyal, with whom he had three daughters named Vidushi Nishank, Shreyasi Nishank & Arushi Nishank. Arushi Nishank, one of his daughters, is a classical dancer. His wife, who was 50 years old at the time, died in Dehradun on November 11, 2012.

  • Pokhriyal sparked outrage in 2014 when he made a statement in parliament claiming that astrology should be promoted. He stated “The most important science is astrology. It is, in reality, outside of science. It is something that should be promoted “.
