Lille acted as the Whistleblower of the Arms Deal in South Africa. She called for an investigation into South Africa’s Purchase of weapons costing 4 billion rands from British and other European manufacturers. She felt that there is some corruption going on with the issue. However, her call for an investigation was rejected by the Government and she was accused of being unpatriotic and embarrassing the country. She even said that people are unaware of the threats of ANC which is a liberation party that has complete disregard for the constitution and laws and is ready to get corrupted so that their President, Jacob Zuma could become the leader of the country and break the Democratic structure.

In 2017 she ordered the closing of Cape Town’s special investigations unit against the wishes of the city’s committee member for safety, security, and social services. However, it was implied that she has benefitted from security upgrades at public expense at her home. However, those accusations were dismissed. Patricia was however charged with misconduct along with accusations of intimidation and criminality. After being voted out, her membership with DA was canceled.

However several complications arise with this act and it was finally decided by De Lille and DA mutually that if she resigns as the Mayor of Cape Town, all internal charges against her from DA would be withdrawn and she will still remain a member of DA. Soon after, Patricia resigned as the Mayor of Cape Town and also as a member of DA.

In 2004 she was awarded the “Freedom of the City” of Birmingham, Alabama, and the ” Old Mutual South Africa Leadership Award” in the category of Woman Leadership. In 2005 she was listed among the top 5 women in Government and Government Agencies. Patricia was listed in 22nd place among the top 100 Great South Especially noted for her role in the Arms Deal investigation. Patricia is the first woman to be recognized as Honorary Colonel of the 84 Signal Unit in the South African National Defence Force. She is the second favorite politician after Thabo Mbeki according to a Markinor Survey conducted in 2004.
