Some of her works include working as a translator for Japan Cooperation Agency and serving the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. She has also worked at the World Health Organization as a Communications Officer.
Nazanin Zaghari’s journey and her attachment to the United Kingdom began after she received a scholarship in 2007 to study Masters in Communication Management at the esteemed London Metropolitan University. In the UK, she met Richard Ratcliffe, who became her husband in the years to come. The couple met through their mutual friends.

Nazanin went to Iran with her daughter to celebrate the Iranian New Year in 2016. She was arrested at the airport itself. Her daughter was first given to her maternal grandparents and later returned to the UK to her husband.
The actual reason for the arrest was never made public by the authorities of Iran. The official statement said she was associated with an illegal group that was involved in an attempt to topple the Iranian Govt. Zaghari Ratcliffe has been denying the charges put up against her. Her husband Richard has put some serious allegations saying that her wife was imprisoned as leverage for a debt owed by the UK to Iran for some diplomatic reasons.
She was sentenced to five years in prison for plotting against the Iranian regime. The prosecutor mentioned that she was involved in a journalism course that is responsible for recruiting people to spread propaganda against the country.
