Mitch McConnell Obama, Trump, Filibuster

Mitch worked with tactics to oppose the Democrat leader and then President of the U.S., Barrack Obama. As he was a member of the Republican party, he pressurised other republicans who were willing to negotiate with the democrats and the Obama Administration. Kentucky had a long-standing healthcare problem. McConnell tried to solve the issue by taking temporary measures every now and then but actively opposed Obama’s healthcare measures like Obamacare and Medicaid expansion.

One of his most common and effective tacts was the use of Filibuster. In the United States Senate, any senator may speak for an unlimited duration unless a 60-person majority votes to invoke cloture or end debate and proceed to a final vote, this is called Filibuster. McConnell used to drag the issues to death till the parties gave up trying. However, he was a supporter of the Trump Government and even endorsed him during his presidential campaign.

However, later on, he criticized some of Trump’s comments and actions which were religion-biased or gender-biased. In October 2017, White House Chief Strategist and some of Trump’s allies blamed McConnell for stalling the Trump Administration’s legislation. But again, when Joe Biden won the elections in 2020, he failed to recognize him as the winner and in his public statement he did not justify any of Trump’s false statements but also didn’t counter them. Finally, one day before the electoral college vote, he publicly congratulated Joe Biden for his win.
