Sykes did her schooling from Mossley Hollins High School and read A-level Religious Studies at Ashton Sixth Form College. Melanie  Sykes was also a member of the Ashtonian Brass Band, along with her father, mother and her siblings (Samantha and Stacy).

Melanie Sykes was married to star Daniel Caltagirone in January 2001. The couple together had two sons. Their elder son Roman was born in 2002 and the younger one Valentino was  born in 2004.
