As an amateur, he played for Team Persil in 2004, but later started his professional career with Team Sparkasse in 2005 and continued till 2006.  he joined T-Mobile Team in 2006, Team Sky in 2012, Omega-Pharma Quick-Step in 2013, Team Dimension Data in 2016, Bahrain McLaren in 2020, and Deceuninck–Quick-Step in 2021 till today.
