She spent most of her senior career with the NWSL’s Portland Thorns FC. Shim was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and attended Kamehameha Kapalama High School, where she was a member of the soccer team that won three ILH titles. The squad won the state title in 2007. Mana Shim Career

Shim played three years as a starting midfielder for the Broncos at Santa Clara University from 2009 to 2012. She appeared in 20 of the squad’s 23 matches as a freshman in 2009. She ended the season with 21 shots, seven of which came in the Broncos’ three NCAA Tournament games. Shim was one of just four Broncos to participate in all 22 games during her sophomore season, starting 18 of them for a total of 1,660 minutes. She had one goal and three assists for five points and was awarded honorable mention All-West Coast Conference. She started all 21 games as a junior in 2011 and finished with 12 points on four goals and four assists. She was selected to the WCC All-Second-Team.
