Laura Kightlinger Career

During the 1994–95 season of Saturday Night Live, Laura Kightlinger was a prominent player. In 1997, Kightlinger played a groupie in the Tenacious D episode “Angel in Disguise.” In 2006, Kightlinger starred in the comedy series The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman. When asked how much of the series was based on her personal experience, she stated, “I suppose that 85 percent of it is based on my personal experience, and the remaining 15 percent is based on a woman’s experience.” I’d think a lot of it is because we normally get a lot of tales about what happens to us and our friends. I’m constantly under the impression that rejection is my fuel. That is what motivates me. Kightlinger has three HBO stand-up comedy specials and six Comedy Central specials under his belt.

In 1997, Kightlinger starred alongside Sarah Silverman and Sam Seder in the indie comedy Who’s the Caboose?  Dependable People, a short film she created in 2001, received the Director’s Citation (Honorable Mention) at the Black Maria Film Festival and the International Festival of Cinema and Technology’s Best New Director Award in 2002. In 2006, it was included on the DVD “Celebrity Mix” with other short films.

Sixty Spins Around the Sun, her debut documentary, was released in 2003 and recounts the New York City street fight to overturn the Rockefeller Drug Laws.  Randy Credico, a political humorist turned activist, is the center of the film, which follows him as he fights to abolish the legislation. The film follows Credico to Tulia, Texas, during a racially motivated narcotics arrest that will be the basis of a Halle Berry film. Larry David, Colin Quinn, Don Gavin, Vanessa Hollingshead, and Nick DiPaolo are among the comedians featured in this film. It was named Best Documentary at the Empire State Film Festival in 2003, the Boston International Film Festival in 2003, and the Beverly Hills Film Festival in 2005. (Jury Award).
