Junior Career

John Milman debut in the ITF junior tournament in Darwin at the age of 15 years in 2004. He made it to reach till quarterfinals. Later he first debuts in Grand Slam in the 2006 Australian Open at the age of 17. He later won his first junior tournament in the same year of 2006 held in New Caledonia. He also won two tournaments in a row held in Fiji and New Zealand. He played his last junior tournament at the 2007 Australian Open.

Professional Career

John Milman started his career as a professional tennis player in 2008 at the age of 19. He played and won F8 Futures in Australia. He was runner up at F1 Romania losing Razvan Sabau and was able to make it to the semifinals of the F5 tournament in Morocco.
In 2009 succeeded to reach the finals at F2 Bulgaria and reached till semifinals, two times in Italy and one in Bulgaria. He participated in many tournaments in 2009 however in the same year he injured his back while training the Australian Junior Davis Cup team. John Milman through his hard work and skills was able to improve his career ranging from close to 1000 to 300 in 2009.
He defeated Mattew Ebden in the second Futures even in Kalgoorlie and reached till second round of qualifying at the Australian Open.

In the starting of 2010, John won wildcard entry in Brisbane International, however, he was drawn to play defending Radek Stepanek in the first round. He lost to Ukrainian IIIya Marchenko in the finals of the qualifying Australian Open.
He defeated Greg Jones and won his third Futures title in February and his fourth Future title in September of the same year in Darwin. In October he defeated Robert Kendrick and won his first challenger title held in Sacramento.

In 2011 John Milman again won the wildcard in Brisbane International however he lost to Matt Ebden. He participated in Sydney and Australian Open qualifying however only made till second rounds in both tournaments. He was injured in Wimbledon qualifying first round and lost to Fritz Wolmarans. After competing in Wimbledon, he returned to Australia and didn’t participate in any tournament till 2012.

He again started in 2012 by competing in the Brisbane International qualifying tournament and won three matches to qualify for the main draw, which he then lost first round to Santiago Giraldo. He traveled to Melbourne to participate and compete in Australian Open qualifying but was defeated by Vasek Pospisil in the first round. By the end of 2012, he improved his world ranking to 199. He defeated Ben Mitchell in the finals and won his first title in over two years in Bendigo.

He started 2013 by competing at the Brisbane International where defeated Luke Saville, Alex Bogomolov, and Donald Young and made till the main draw. He recorded his first-ever ATP win against Tatsuma Ito in the first round. He was then awarded a main draw wildcard into the 2013 Australian Open. He was defeated by world no.3 Andy Murray in the second round of Brisbane.
Due to his impressive performance at Brisbane International, an Australian writer coined the term “Millminions” to his fanbase.

In June 2015 John Milman won his first Grand Slam main draw entry via qualifying Wimbledon first time in his career. Later by the end of 2018, he improved his skills and excelled in his game, and earned his career-high ranking of No. 38. In 2019 and 2020 he played matches against Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Gilles Simon, Michael Mmoh, Karen Khachanov, and many more. And he ended the year 2020 with the ranking of No. 38.
