Lawson is most known for anchoring the Nickelodeon Australia programs Saturday Nick Television, Sarvo, Nick Takes Over Your School, and Camp Orange for a long time. He also co-hosted the 2006 Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards alongside fellow Sarvo host James Kerley and Sophie Monk. He declared his desire to depart Nickelodeon Australia on February 16, 2007, while Kerley suggested that Lawson may return at a later date.

Lawson returned to television in April 2008, co-hosting The Dave & Kerley Show on Channel V at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings with James Kerley. He was also a host and participant on the Ten Network’s Guerrilla Gardeners, where he was hired mostly “to spin lines to the councilors [trying to halt the program] when they showed up” because of his background.

He also starred alongside fellow comic Stephen Curry in the Toyota Memorable Events television ads, which depicted notable moments in Australian rules football history. While the players replicate the situations, Curry plays the straight guy, while a too-exuberant Lawson frustrates and is generally harmed by them.
