Dan Burn, who was born in Blyth, Northumberland, grew up idolizing Alan Shearer and loving Newcastle United. Burn played youth football for local teams New Hartley, Blyth Town, and Blyth Spartans after being released by Newcastle United at the age of 11. He began working for supermarket Asda at the age of 16, when a Darlington scout noticed him playing for Blyth Spartans and offered him a professional contract on July 1, 2009.
